One layer cards

Here are a few quick makes from last night.. one layer cards are a bit stressful though aren't they! I have to repeat the mantra from the Simplicity blog - "IT'S ONLY PAPER"!!!!

These were both made with wood stamps... I can't quite get the hang of them, clear stamps are soooo much easier to use! Although I do find that clear stamps don't stamp distress inks well - does anyone else get that?!

Anyway, less waffling.. on to the pictures

The heart is a wood stamp that cost £1 and the sentiment is from a papermania birthday set. The purple ink is Distress Dusty Concord and the pink is a cats eye Dusty Plum by Colorbox which I also splodged around the edges.

I've entered this for the Allsorts challenge - one or more hearts.

This is another £1 wood stamp which I've never used! Stamped in Distress pumice stone. After stamping the sentiment in green, I couldn't find ANY embellishments in my stash that matched the colour! Frustrating! But it'll do as it is! My critical eye also notices that despite the care I took, I didn't manage to stamp straight OR central!!! The sentiment balances it a little at least.. I wonder if anyone else would notice!!! Please let me know what you think - honesty is good!

I enjoyed making these. Once the preparations were finished (practice stamping to get it central!) they came together very quickly. I wish I'd gone for a different colour green tho!

  4. I LOVE the simplicity of these two. Think that the top one is my favourite - just stunning. Simple cards are just the hardest to make aren't they. I just can't resist the urge to keep sticking on more embellishments!! I agree that distress ink doesn't stick as well to some clear stamps and I cannot stamp straight with a wooden stamp. You've done a great job! Hugs, Jayne xx

  6. Really like these cards - especially the first one. I agree it's tough to stamp with rubber stamps but I also agree that the coverage is often better. My fave ink with clear stamps is Versamagic chalk ink, but I'm on the lookout for a good dye ink. Distress inks are so fun to play with - backgrounds, etc.

    1. Hi Maria, thanks for your comment. The colorbox inks I used for the sentiments on these cards were chalk ink - i agree they're good on clear stamps. Dovecraft pigments inks seem to work ok for me too, although they're a total pig to clean - they seem to be quite greasy!! Good luck on your ink hunt! M x
